Viva Passed
Nicholas is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, 21st November 2012, he passed his viva with minor corrections. Examiners were Gerry Docherty (External) and Paul Kerswill (Internal).

Thesis Submitted
Nicholas submitted his thesis, entitled "A Sociophonetic Study of Nottingham Speakers" on Friday, 28th September 2012. He now awaits appointment of examiners and a viva date for the examination.

New Teaching Position at Leeds Metropolitan University
As of 24th September 2012, Nicholas will be employed as a Temporary Lecturer at Leeds Metropolitan University, teaching "Clinical Practical Phonetics" to students enrolled on the Speech and Language Therapy course. This involves teaching production and perception of sounds of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as well as sounds of disordered speech and phonemic transciptions in small-group seminar situations.

Prize-winning BAAP Poster
In March 2012, Nicholas attended the biannual British Association of Academic Phoneticians (BAAP) colloquium held at the University of Leeds, 26th-28th March. Nicholas presented a poster (co-authored with supervisor Paul Foulkes) about his work comparing vowel formant normalisation procedures, and won the Eugénie Henderson Prize for the best poster given by a student or non-member.
